ear candy

some people might get lots of piercings to look cool, but i really just need to accommodate my earring obsession. though, you might notice that i don't have many hoops or dangly ones, but only because i am really not a hoop person.

i feel like i should jump on dumpster trucks and break into a song about sunshine and dreams when i wear these. nyeh, why not.

dial m for murder : christian dior spring 2010

if the john galliano sent his models naked down the runway, chances are most of us would still recognize the whole film noir, 1940's, lauren bacall reference, with the help of an iconic side swept hair, rolling curls and red lips.
point being, i felt like the whole collection was a bit disappointing and a thousand times too obvious and been-there-done-that. it wasn't inspiring, and prompted "of course, trench coat, of course, red lips, of course", rather than "of course!" and "why didn't i think of that?"
and even so, despite what i said, i really adore this collection. perhaps i'm being a little biased, because it is john galliano, and i have much love for the 40's era but it's fashion, so what the hell.

is it just me, or does anyone else get a very versace (what's on sasha) and georgio armani f/w 2009 (the socks, the make up, the short dresses, trench coats) vibe? nevertheless, most of what's here is spot on. i love the combination of a fluid skirt/dress under a structured coat, which makes a really strong silhouette, cinched waists and everything. and i'd kill for glitter socks now.

obviously working parallel from his last couture collection, galliano is the epic guru of mastering the art of underwear as outerwear. no one does it better than he does. it doesn't look pornographic, nor garish, and it most definitely doesn't look skanky. it's so sophisticated, it's glamorous, it's romantic with an underlining (lololololol forgive me) allure and seduction - which is exactly what lingerie should be: tempting, but not giving too much away.

things that are sort of fugly to me:

things that i would give up my hamster for:

albeit being straight-forward, galliano has also made the 1940's era of style very wearable and modern, without it being humphrey bogart walking out of casablanca. throughout this spring/summer's fashion week, it's evident that some collections are either too wearable that it's boring, or too "out there" (mario schwab), or just here nor there, but galiano's found a balance between the two.

ps: yeah, i think i'm about 3 weeks late. sorry!

when high fashion became more interesting than high school

it's a lie when people say school only educates them academically, or at least for me, because when you're in a secondary school with more than 400 people, there's more to look at than what's in your textbook.
take fashion for example. of the many years i've been in an international school, where people can actually afford to buy LV bags and jimmy choos as they please, it's taught me a lot; like, money can buy you friends (but won't guarantee to last) or people sacrifice their preferences to what's popular. or the most important thing i've learnt, is that you can have all the money in the world, and still not - blatantly - good / fashionable / "bananas" (i love rachel zoe, just to put it out there).
money is an entity, and style is a skill. similarly, someone may have a wide range of vocabulary but not know how to write, or someone might be really good at photoshop and not know how to edit, or someone might look model material, but can't actually model (quite like that girl from this antm season, i forgot her name)

"fashion fades, only style remains the same."

i've got the gift of one liners and you've got

(dress and hairband: http://www.chickdowntown.com/)

when i start college, i probably won't have time for parties or snooty dinners but GOSHDARNIT if i had this dress i'd wear it anywhere. i'd wear it to school, to sleep, to buy groceries, to swim, to the zoo.
and yeah sure, people will stare and ask me why i've got this miracle of a dress on when it's winter, and tell me my skin is turning blue and that i should go to the doctors, but again, GOSHDARNIT i'd be the most fashionable, sparkly person in the ward.

what's that you say? my buttons don't have a valid reason to be on this dress seeing as they aren't actually buttoning up anything, thus proving useless as opposed to something else less lovely than this?
hmph. WELL.
