when high fashion became more interesting than high school

it's a lie when people say school only educates them academically, or at least for me, because when you're in a secondary school with more than 400 people, there's more to look at than what's in your textbook.
take fashion for example. of the many years i've been in an international school, where people can actually afford to buy LV bags and jimmy choos as they please, it's taught me a lot; like, money can buy you friends (but won't guarantee to last) or people sacrifice their preferences to what's popular. or the most important thing i've learnt, is that you can have all the money in the world, and still not - blatantly - good / fashionable / "bananas" (i love rachel zoe, just to put it out there).
money is an entity, and style is a skill. similarly, someone may have a wide range of vocabulary but not know how to write, or someone might be really good at photoshop and not know how to edit, or someone might look model material, but can't actually model (quite like that girl from this antm season, i forgot her name)

"fashion fades, only style remains the same."

thanks for the link :)
i saw the web, and i feel like getting every one of the rings ..
this is so true of what you write.. i do agree that people sacrifice their style in order to fit a certain social group. I also grew up in an int'l school community where branded stuff can be afforded.. Now that I have switched to a fashion college, dressing has never been easier.. we can still stick to our personal styles BUT we can also maintain the 'social status'thingy without wearing the "upper class dresscode"..
many people in my school make friends with the riches just because they want to be seen as "cool" because they have a "powerful" friend.. money really is a powerful tool for pretty much everything. how unfair is this world ?

love that title!!! and everything you say is totally true.
it slightly reminds me of the *cough* abercrombie and fitch *cough cough* debate; and, in general, "off the shelf" style. All that really happens is that one becomes a trend follower: when louis vuitton dictates what you wear, you never develop a sense of style even if you are well-dressed. if you try to describe someones style and it becomes, "ummmmm, so many gorgeous designers, i want to raid her wardrobe :)" ...no, that is not style.
i think we go to similar schools :) xxx

From one international school girl to another, I've had exactly the same thought back then but I wouldn't have traded the experience for the world. Lol. It was crazy fun.
